Reboots, in anime, seem to either fail epically or be a great success.
Look at the original "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime - it's fair to say that the whole series didn't follow the canon of the manga storyline, right? (Please, any corrections are accepted and encouraged - I'm still learning! ^_^) And, I will say that the series, in its own right, is pretty damn good. But, it's one caviat is that, the second half of the series it didn't follow the main canon storyline. Then came "FMA: Brotherhood", which told the story through its main canon, and done so in a very good manner. (Side note: I'm a big EdWin shipper!) (Second side note: Alanna - Himechan - consider making a section in anime/manga about shipping)
However, not every reboot (at least, in my opinion) works wonders. Growing up in the "Toonami Era," I loved watching DragonBall Z every weeknight. It was the highlight of my day, and I loved every minute of it. Given that I was 7 years old, at the time, I didn't care or think about "filler", and I thoroughly enjoyed the filler episodes, albeit I was young and didn't know about filler. Then came DBZ Kai, labeled as "all action, no filler," and presented as a fast-paced version re-do of the series. I didn't like it. Others do, though, and, hey, they have the right to, it's their choice.
These are just my opinions; let me know what you all think!
